Summer Game Fest 2026 – Recap
One of the strongest SGF presentations we’ve had, Geoff Keighley smashes it out of the park with some surprise announcements, big reveals and awesome gameplay.
This summer has graced gaming fans with some stellar showcases, and the Summer Game Fest did not disappoint! Let’s talk about what Geoff showed us and how hyped fans should be.
A Summer to Remember
This summer has graced gaming fans with some stellar showcases, and the Summer Game Fest did not disappoint! Let’s talk about what Geoff showed us and how hyped fans should be.
Opening the show… Claire Redfield is back! As someone more recently getting into the series and being a big fan of the RE2 Remake, I’m excited. Resident Evil: Veronica is out in 2027 and looks to be just as terrifying as the other RE games, and I can’t wait to see Claire again and experience this story for the first time.
One of my personal favourites from the show, from one of the original creators of Assassin’s Creed; 1666 Amsterdam is a dark and gloomy third-person story-driven game in which you utilise witchcraft to investigate and reveal hidden demonic entities that camouflage as humans. This will be available for PC later this year and on consoles at a later date.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, a direct sequel to the first game, was revealed. This continues the story beyond the first game and introduces a new protagonist. This has certainly pushed me to play the first game; the combat looks incredibly fun!
A Variety of Games for All
Developer Innersloth announced a new standalone game: Among Us Story: On Guard. This game is narrative-driven, and you play the role of a Guard who is supposed to maintain safety aboard a ship. However, a murder occurs, and only chaos ensues as you investigate who did it! 10 episodes of an Among Us animated show also dropped on Paramount+ at the same time.
Monster Hunter Wilds is getting a huge expansion called Ascendance. You’ll be able to soar the skies and hunt incredibly powerful monsters when this releases across all available platforms in 2027.
We FINALLY got to see more on The Wolf Among Us 2. It’s been a long time, but in 2027 we’ll get to join Bibgy once more and, in usual Telltale games fashion, your choices will affect how your story plays out. Before that though, Telltale announced that a remastered version of the first game will be coming out at the end of this year.
The developers of the Yakuza series showed off a new trailer for their next game, Stranger Than Heaven, and all I can remember is that crazy reveal that Tupac Shakur will be in the game… I have nothing more to say other than that it comes out on 15th January 2027.
Street Fighter 6 Year 4 DLC characters were shown off; you’ll get to play as Yasmine, Bosch or Arjun. Of course, I’m not forgetting the fourth and most important person joining the roster: Tifa, from Final Fantasy 7! I know fans were after this for a long time, and this was an exciting announcement for them.
The Announcements Don’t Stop
Saw: Genesis is a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer game from Bloober Team. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out; Dead By Daylight has been the top dog of asymmetrical games for 10 years, and it’d be great for it to have some competition.
Another favourite of mine from the show is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin from developer PlatinumGames. I’m a big fan of Bayonetta, and seeing the developers helm this game has got me stoked; I know they’ll do it justice.
CrossFire was announced by former Call of Duty developers. It’s a single-player-driven shooter which forces you to experiment with your environmental surroundings, a skill that will come in handy throughout the game.
The creator of Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian finally gave us a look at his next game: gen Atlas, which was very sci-fi as we saw gigantic robots being climbed upon.
Studio MDHR announced a Cuphead sequel. Along with the sequel announcement, we got to see Mighty Cuphead Adventure, an 8-bit platformer shooter being developed by a smaller team within the studio. I’d say I’m excited to try these, but I’ve not played the original and I just know I’ll throw my controller out of the window in frustration.
Quick-fire Announcements
A new trailer for Alien Isolation 2 was shown, and of course we can expect some horrific moments trying to hide from the always-hunting Xenomorph.
An open-world racing game from former Forza Horizon devs is coming. Clutch is out Spring 2027.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads from RGG Studio will be released in 2027. The combat looks intense as the story involves the Chinese mafia.
A big reveal from developers ArenaNet as online RPG Guild Wars 3 was shown, releasing later in 2027.
Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is an open-world racing game from the creators of the Hot Wheels Unleashed games. This comes out 24th September 2026… that’s another game for September, yikes.
The Final Stretch
Below is the final list of games shown during the presentation.
- – Palworld 1.0 releases 10th July
- – Attack on Titan 3 will let us play through the entire storyline for the first time
- – Vampire game The Blood of Dawnwalker
- – Turn-based strategy game Star Wars: Zero Company is out 27th August
- – Lords of the Fallen 2 is coming towards the end of the year
- – Mafia: The Old Country expansion, Man of Honor, comes out 14th August
- – RuneScape: Dragonwilds releases 15th September and makes its first ever jump to consoles
- – Gundam Rogue Orbit is coming in 2027, and you’ll pilot a Gundam, take on fierce bosses, dominate challenges and take part in fast-paced battles
- – Haex is coming in 2027; the trailer had a sci-fi look, but didn’t give away much more
- – Blood Message is set during the Tang Dynasty, and your journey takes you on an action-packed adventure
Saving the biggest reveal for last, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was revealed, and this will be an emotional and adventure-filled final installment for the FF7 Remake trilogy. It’s releasing simultaneously across all platforms in 2027, and the director of the game gave us a pretty detailed look at what to expect. Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind join the team, a new job system adds an element of variety to combat, and we can board the Highwind airship to take to the skies and dive off to whichever new area we desire, as Cloud and the team fight to save the world.
A brilliant Summer Game Fest overall; Geoff killed it with this one. Some huge announcements from giants like Square Enix and Capcom to the not-so-giant studios like Innersloth and Milestone, there were games for everyone.
I think plenty of developers are scared to release their games in November, though. I wonder why…?
*cough* GTA VI *cough*.
